The Talavera Tiles we use for our superior murals are delicately hand-painted with lead free paint. To know more about the process please read 'Artisan & Craftsmanship'.

We do also provide SUPERIOR TILE MURALS. These murals have an additional layer of red body bisque coating applied, which makes them slightly thicker than our regular tiles, with a thickness of 0.40". This creates a durability and an enhanced frost-proof quality, suited particularly to outdoor conditions.

We recommend using superior tiles wherever you are looking for enhanced durability and frost-proof quality.

We are happy to produce a superior tile mural with your very own design and measurements. Just contact us. Let your imagination flow and enjoy your creation!

Note: Please remember that handmade crafts are not consistent in their dimensions due to the nature of being crafted by hand and a half inch variance should be allowed for in all planning and designing. Especially hand painted items will also have slight variations in the artistic implementation- that is what makes them so unique and charming.

Roberto Vazquez

Roberto's workshop is a small, unassuming factory located in Dolores Hidalgo. While many manufacturers today rely on machinery to produce carbon copies of each piece, Roberto choses to stick to the tradition of producing and painting by hand, infusing them with uniqueness and originality.

Roberto Vazquez says:

"My family has been in this guild for 95 years. The workshop was founded 4 generations ago by Felipe Vazquez, who passed the knowledge and skills to his descendants and ultimately to me".

"We create these beautiful pieces of art by the combination of three types of clay, which in turn provides three different shades of color. We knead the clay by hand or foot, and then we shape and dry it. The pieces are then fired at an extreme heat (850 degrees Celcius). Once they cool, they are submerged in glaze, which brings their color to life. Patterns are then drawn and painted on the pieces. Thats why he designs are slightly raised off of the surface of the pottery. With an additional firing (this time at 1000 degrees), the Talavera work of art is complete and ready to be used or admired. Whenever is viable, we use recycled materials in our facilities, including recycled paper".

Caring for your Mural

A tile mural occasionally needs maintenance to revive the natural finish from everyday dust.

Use a non-abrasive household cleaning agent along with a soft, cotton cloth and buff lightly with a soft, dry cloth.

Do not use any agent which contains abrasive chemicals as they may permanently damage the tile mural.

Decorate your life

Talavera tile murals are being used to beautify homes from the entryway walls, to the kitchen decor, enhancing a bathroom atmosphere and gracing the outdoor walls to set a stunning terrace or garden party scene.

Decorate your home

A tile mural can add its charming qualities to a child's room and create any fantasy world they enjoy. A forest or animal scene, encouraging imaginative play and an awareness of art.

Another enchanting place for a mural is the back splash in the kitchen behind a stove or preparation surface, garnishing cooking with an extra flavor.

You can additionally use deco tiles, also known as accent tiles, which we are happy to produce for you. These are individual tiles which are designed to match and complement the motif of a particular tile mural. You can install them strategically within the balance of tile in a kitchen back splash or shower enclosure to expand the focal point of interest.

Is the tile mural frost-proof, can I use it for outdoors?

No, but our Talavera Murals Superior are frost-proof. These murals have an additional layer of red body bisque coating applied, which makes them slightly thicker than our regular tiles, with a thickness of 0.40". This creates a durability and an enhanced frost-proof quality, suited particularly to outdoor conditions.
